Your First Class

We want your first experience with us to be amazing!

The below is designed to provide you with key information so that you feel more comfortable.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

PS. Don’t forget to hydrate!

Arrival time

The studio opens 20 minutes before morning classes, 30 minutes before the first afternoon/evening class and 15 minute before the second evening class.

The teacher welcomes you at reception and will close the front door to the public when the class begins, there is no ability to sneak in late. We are strict about start time and will always start exactly on time and finish on time as we know people have places to be and things to do.

Please ensure you arrive at least 15-20 minutes BEFORE the class is due to start. This will give you enough time to register and be shown the ropes by the teacher. There may be other new people starting in the same class, so arriving with plenty of time is important. It also ensures you are able to relax for a few minutes before class starts and let go of any stress that may have arrived with you.

I’ve never done yoga before!!

Can I come to any class and do I need to book in advance?

All of our classes are great for beginners. Bikram Yoga is excellent for beginners, it is designed as a beginners yoga series. The great thing about it is that while everyone is doing the same pose, they are all at different stages of the pose from the set up through to the full expression. It’s great for a beginning or an advanced student. Everyone’s body is different and everyone enters with their own capabilities, physical conditioning, habits, injuries and so forth.

You are very welcome at every and any class on the timetable.

Ideally, you will sign up via the Mindbody app and book into class. If you don’t have time to book, you can just turn up at the studio and there will always be room.

What should I wear?

Light, non-restrictive, comfortable work-out clothing. You will be sweating so avoid loose fitting, heavy clothing (like t-shirts and long track pants). Opt for bike/exercise shorts, sports bras/tops for women and singlets for guys (many men just wear shorts).

For the Yin class you may wish to be warmer and bring a pair of sox or a long sleeved top. There is less movement and the room is not heated, so your body can cool down when in final savasana.

What should I bring to class?

  • A yoga mat if you have one (you can rent one for $2 or buy one for $39.99).

  • A large towel to put on your mat to soak up your sweat (towel rental is $2 or buy one that fits your mat for $39).

  • A bottle of water (filtered water is available).

  • An extra towel is suggested if you wish to shower after class.

What if I am not flexible?

Flexibility is the outcome of yoga! People come to yoga to improve flexibility and range of motion. You are not alone, lots of students are working on their flexibility. You do not need to be flexible to come to yoga. This is the most common misconception that prevents people from coming to yoga classes. Yoga is a cross between strength and flexibility and so many factors come into play such as age, sports history, injury and illness. You start where you are at and go from there.

Should I eat before class?

It is recommended to practice yoga on an empty stomach. As a standard rule, refrain from eating 2 hours prior to class. Be sure to hydrate well before coming to class.

How long is each class?

We offer 45, 60 and 90 minute classes. Plan on staying in the room the entire time.

How often should I come?

Like anything benefits come from practice and patience. We recommend that you practice a minimum of 3 times per week. You will notice the cumulative effect of a regular practice. Each time you attend builds on the benefits of the previous class. It is important not to leave too many days between visits so your body muscle memory doesn’t revert back to square one.

Can I lose weight doing yoga?

Yes. Like anything though, the food you eat plays a huge role in your weight.
